Height = observation count

This 3D visualization displays bryophyte observations (mosses, liverworts, and hornworts) recorded across Minnesota from 1893 to 2025.

Bar height represents the number of observations at each location (logarithmic scale)—taller bars indicate more documented sightings.

Colors are stacked within each bar to show all taxonomic orders recorded at that location, with segment heights proportional to observation counts. Hover over a bar to see the breakdown.

A note on sampling bias: This map shows where observations were recorded, not necessarily where bryophytes are most abundant. Clusters often reflect researcher activity near cities, universities, and field stations rather than true species distribution.
