Bryophyta Sketchbook

This sketch shows the initial concept for the Minnesota Bryophyta visualization. Initially intended to be 3D printed and cover the world, it was inspired by the work of citizen scientists who post their observations to iNaturalist, the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) from where the data comes, and Shane Hope's Public Panopticon Powder, an artwork of 3D printed abstractions of data. Robin Wall Kimmerer's Gathering Moss: A Natural and Cultural History of Mosses also inspired my interest in moss. My Minnesota Bryophyta visualization is intended to be furry like the plants they represent, with the data growing over the state as moss does.
