I used the Natural History Museum, London's API to explore the historical range of mosquitoes. Climate change is impacting habitats of disease vectors like these insects, which can carry malaria, dengue fever, chikungunya, yellow fever, and West Nile virus, among other serious diseases. This visualization explores a sampling from the museum's collection. 920 specimens with both year and location data are included here. I was interested in mosquitoes from all over the world, but it turns out that most if the Natural History Museum's mosquito specimens are from the United Kingdom.
